Guided Study Groups @ Penn State Learning is made possible through the commitment and cooperation of our student leaders. Consider becoming a GSG leader!
Our tutors are undergraduates who have successfully completed a GSG course in economics, math, statistics, or the sciences, and who are passionate about sharing their knowledge with other students.
Student leaders will:
Attend course lectures to review and remain current with material
Facilitate two to three weekly study sessions throughout the semester
Ensure a meaningful out-of-class learning experience by being patient, encouraging, and supportive with every student
Our Training Approach
You are required to take a one-credit course (C I 200) that will familiarize you with the needs of your students and allow you to provide a successful learning environment.
Peer Tutoring (C I 200) will prepare you to:
Set up and organize a tutoring session
Facilitate both individual and group tutoring
Understand students’ unique learning preferences
Communicate cross-culturally with your students
Promote the importance of study skills
Additional course information for C I 200 is available upon request. You are not required to take the course if you have already taken SC 220.
