Choice A. Maybe this student needs help with time management even more than he needs help from a tutor. You suggest, “Have you asked for help with time management at the Learning Center? They have some really good materials that you would probably find helpful.”
Choice B. This is taking a lot longer than you thought it would. You feel like you need to get the student focused and on task. You say, “Well let’s get started then!”
Choice C. Still mirroring the student’s posture and relaxing a little more, you say, “I’m a student too so I feel your pain. I’m not sure what you need me to help you with. Why don’t you tell me little bit about why you’re here.”
